Item 1 CARPENTRY You must have a Carpentry licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including carpentry, that is valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Carpentry means cutting and placing timber (or timber composites) in on site construction work to put up framing or fix components or assemblies used in construction work, such as stairs, windows, doors, wallboards (excluding plaster boards which is dry plastering) and floors.

It includes putting up metal framing and constructing formwork to prepare for concreting.

Item 2 WATERPROOFING You must have a Waterproofing licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including waterproofing, valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Waterproofing is any protective treatment of a home to prevent water or moisture getting into it.

It is also the protective treatment of wet areas of a home (such as a shower) to stop the unwanted escape of water from those areas.

The protective treatment used is solid membranes or membranes applied by brush, roller or any other method.

Item 3 Kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovation You must have a the KBLR licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovations, that is valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials.

Kitchen, bathroom and laundry renovation is work involved in the installation, refurbishment, restoration and on-site repairs of or to a kitchen, bathroom or laundry.

It doesn't include work affecting any internal or external load bearing part of the building that is essential to the stability of the building or any part of it, including things such as foundations, floors, walls, roof, columns and beams.

Any contract for kitchen, bathroom or laundry renovations can include any specialist work that needs to be done as part of the overall job, and any specialist work can be appropriately subcontracted. However this work must be carried out by the holder of an endorsed contractor licence or qualified supervisor certificate in that specialist category.

Item 4 Asbestos work licences Asbestos removal work must be carried out by a licensed asbestos removalist. NSW Work safe inspectors can issue on the spot fines to any individual or business that appoints an unlicensed asbestos removalist, and to licensed asbestos removalists who fail to notify us of licensed asbestos removal work.
